The accusation is that the tears are fake, revealing deception, not distress. Interestingly sexist accusation, BTW. Female emotional blackmail.

Could you clarify the logic here? Is it not right to point out prejudice even if the ultimate source is resolute? Not dissimilar to calling out those would limit speech based on its "gross offense." The point is to broadcast a corrupt ideology, no?
-
I'm saying racists don't care about being called racist and so are less likely to cry about it. Therefore people crying about it are less likely to be racist. You seem to have imagined a bit where I recommended not pointing out that racists are racist and that this is bad.
-
Ok, appreciate the clarification.

I think that there is still a social stigma that even people who are unabashedly racist want to avoid. This is why you get things like the redefining of the word to "power + prejudice" and "race realism".
-
(Not to say the people in question here are actual racists of course. I don't know them.)
-
I would say it is people who do not have much power who weaponize their tears. Racists with power do not need to. Never seen Marine Le Pen crying when accused to be racist.
-
I think it's a mistake to say that the women in the article don't have any power because Le Pen exists. There are different spheres of power with different methods of expressing it. Showing emotion as a leader of a country might lose power, where the opposite is true elsewhere.
-
If you are the boss, even in a random workplace, you usually do not cry when called out for bad behaviour. It is the little bully whose game has been denounced and who risks punishment that would cry.
-
Traditional hierarchical structures like governments and workplaces are not the only loci of power that exist. Having high standing in a social group - though intangible - is also a form of power, and there are groups where being perceived as under attack confers status.

Ugh is this about "white woman tears"... Such a confusing concept, it's apparently not about crying, or sadness. It's just about racism. It makes no sense.
