Please stop accusing people of being 'gateway drugs' to something horrible because you want to accuse them of them being something horrible but can't actually connect to it.

Its just a variation of the slippery slope fallacy. 'If you think this person who criticises identity politics is OK, next you'll be supporting racists and sexists' (even tho that's also identity politics)

But, Helen, if X can't criticise Y for being evil, and can't criticise Y for leading to evil, then X might have to *shudders* engage with the argument Y presents. And as X is good, and Y differs, Y must be evil by definition.

That person says people should be charitable? Gateway to communism. That person says that laws are good? Gateway to fascism. etc

I agree this is a huge problem. Any political idea can be made to seem like it ends in an extreme, so it's hard to get ideas heard on their actual merits. Especially true when economics is at play... socialism, capitalism, etc.

Ideologues judge truth based on what is proximal or distal to their transcendental signifiers--an epistemology based on a predetermined locus of virtue. This flattens & distorts their conceptual maps. which blinds them to emergent, more functional, perpendicular truths.
