There simply is no point in working for social justice if you think countries which have a high degree of gender/racial/LGBT equality are not morally superior to ones that deny rights to women & persecute ethnic, religious & sexual minorities. What's the end game here?https://twitter.com/BraveEpoch/status/995779974618464256 …

Then that’s not superiority. You can find good bits and make a general summary of ANY culture, that won’t make them superior or inferior.

Surely only morally superior in that particular respect?

Yes. if you judge morality on things other than human rights and equality, you'll come to different conclusions.

Yes. Just for the record I was not wishing to downgrade these things. Merely to say that, while cultural relativism is tosh, where countries are concerned there might be several dimensions. Eg All good on LGBT, not so good on irresponsible arms sales

Why do you make that big jump though—from “there’s a fight social equality in my culture” to “my culture is superior”? Like I said you can apply the same model to Chinese culture. How much social justice is enough to attain superiority?

A family concerned about healthcare (science/equality) would rather have an Arab culture values in those areas than a western one, an LGBT person would rather have California culture values than Alabama ones

What does this mean? Why do you think a family concerned with healthcare better have Arab cultural values?

Because in arab cultures healthcare is regarded with a high standard than it is in the US for example

The US is a bit of an outlier for the west in this regard.

Agreed. The alternative is to say equality and democracy are just western narratives.

I think i can understand this if you look at cultures as including multiple values, and it’s each value that can be better or worse than another, but not necessarily the culture as a whole.

I think that is the point she is making. IMO there is no objective superiority. You should always say what you are measuring. But people use "superior" as a shorthand for many aggregate measurements, or when they assume the context is clear.
