I know a lot of people are laughing at this and I see why. I don't think it's a terrible idea in itself but it won't work in the way she wants it to.https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/permission-nappy-change-consent-sexuality-expert-deanne-carson-a8345581.html …

I think it's generally a good idea to exhibit behaviour you want your child to emulate as soon as possible. This is why I would say 'I'd like you to sit down, please' even as I was compelling my tantrumming toddler to sit down on the bus against her will because calmness & manners

I think saying 'Shall we change your nappy?' is fine to let the child know their co-operation is wanted and give them the chance to give it (when old enough to understand, obv.' Problem is that most kids still in nappies when 'NO!' becomes their favourite word.

Then the parent has to overrule them and say 'We need to change your nappy' and just do it. If this lady thinks kids will apply these early experiences to later life, this experience is likely to be 'The best thing to do is overrule 'no' and do it anyway.' Of course, this is nuts

Kids don't learn it's ok to overrule people & take their pants off coz their parents compelled them to have their nappy changed. They learn that parents can overrule very young children in this way for a good reason but adults' wishes must be sought and respected coz autonomy.

So, she either thinks parents should ask consent and then respect 'no' in which case their kids will probably get very sick, die or be taken away or she just hasn't thought this through and recognised that 'no' often has to be overruled in very young children.

I knew a woman who decided she was not going to teach her son the word "no". If he did something wrong, she never said "no" to him. She gave a lengthy explanation of why we don't do that. 1/

We all wondered if he would have trouble negotiating consent with peers as he got older because he wasn’t going to have a framework to understand “no". Have no idea what happened to him. /end

Lol, this was my hopeful but v naive plan that didn't last very long at all because me and my 2.5 yr old daughter don't live in a bubble and it's now her fav word even when I'm offering choices. "Would you like A or B?" "No"

Which, if you inject this kind of latent social engineering, will likely make the kid less understanding of the necessity of No.

So it took you 10mins to figure out that this is essentially unworkable. And yet this so called expert who's area of interest is presumably such topics couldn't figure it out. Not sure you appreciate the term but this is classic IYI.
