At first, I thought, "Right, so if we can't make women make the same choices as men, on average, try to get men to make the same choices as women?" but on reading it, I actually approve. Making it easier for men to do more flexible & fewer hours on becoming fathers would be good.https://twitter.com/Zacnaloen/status/994901321839972358 …

Yes, attempts at social engineering through positive incentives isn't the problem, i.e. "encouraging men to do X". The problem is when "Men should.." and "Men need to.." leads to anti-market laws against negotiation in the workplace, negotiating by proxy, automatic raises, etc.

That’s all well in good but I’m afraid the national wage gap will not disappear completely when it’s frankly impossible to have some fields like genders studies & psychology make the same money as business or engineering.
-
To balance that out you’d have to pay men less than women in more lucrative professions where more men are employed than women.

P.S. I’m for paid paternal leave, on a take it or leave it basis.

“Misleading” from the perspective of the author, probably not. The wage gap is a self-licking lollipop because the sexes will never make the same choices at a population level. Men will prefer money, women family time.

Yes, it certainly doesnt make sense for men to earn less in order to close the wage gap with their partners!
