I officially register an objection to the term ‘intellectual dark web’. It’s not dark. They aren’t intellectuals. They’re sophists - selling second hand phrases and sayings, packaged to make those buying them feel good. We should call it the car boot sale of conservative opinion.

Do you normally label entire groups this way? Seems sloppy to me.

If you want to defend something defend it; don’t hide that defence in the form of an empty critique of ‘naming’ classes of things. Bring forward a proof that they aren’t mostly doing it for the money and that their ideas transcend the mere statement of opinion.

You're making the claim Alan. You defend it. Who are all these members of the IDW you refer to. Is

I have said all I want to say on the topic of an IDW. And I'm not sure how you prove that someone's motivations aren't the most nefarious their detractors can posit, though you can easily point to any of them speaking factually or opining.

People’s motivations are not at issue. It’s about genre and social relationships. We don’t distinguish between a sermon, a sales pitch, a political oration or a philosophical discourse with reference to motivation.

I was referring to 'mostly doing it for the money.' I haven't seen anything about genre and social relationships. Those vary widely among those put on this list which includes biologists, psychologists, neuroscientists, political writers etc.
