Because women are sneaky, not much sexual dimorphism, let the guys use their resources to grow scary poison spurs, we look like them and we get the evolutionary advantage of being scary for free.

I feel I must stand up for the honour of female platypodes here; the spur seems to be for fighting other male platypodes, as the venom section gland is dormant outside the mating season, not about scaring the other mental Strayan fauna.
