Of course, that sounds pretty boring but the intent was good. Also he argued strenuously against contemporary views that women who had been raped should kill themselves saying that they remained innocent. He was shit on homosexuality tho.

I have a soft spot for Augustine. Especially where he rejected Manicheaism after one of their beliefs abt the natural world was shown to be false & they didn't change it & when he rejected astrology after a doctor showed how he had tested its accuracy and found it had none.

I feel convinced, if he lived now, he'd be an atheist & rationalist. But Augustine does this to people by giving the impression of taking you into his inner world & showing you its workings so you sympathise with them. This is why Catholics & Protestants feel sure he's with them

Well, this kind of logic is endemic to Christianity. The religion urges ppl to identify and reject sinful thoughts and feelings. From this perspective it has a clear advantage over Islam.
