But smooshing all of those together is the problem. This would include not being able to say 'its OK to be gay' and not being able to say 'Let's go round up the Jews. We're meeting at 6.' These are very different things. Inciting hatred is too subjective & impossible to measurehttps://twitter.com/KateTheSaboteur/status/993407228819406848 …

I usually like your tweets, so it troubles me to see you criticize European justice using US-only concepts. Not an expert on the UK but Europe’s law on this is pretty different and (try to) balance both concerns.

Huh? I am not talking about what laws are in various countries. I am talking about the liberal principle of freedom of speech.

You also said “inciting hatred is too subjective”when European courts seem to manage. And no, you’re talking about the US-only concept of freedom of speech without any consideration of other effects. We European use “freedom of speech” differently, inside and outside law.

No, I'm not. Americans (not all, obviously) have a tendency to conflate the principle of freedom of speech with their 1st Amendment. I say this about it. (First two are from a recent essay. Last two are standalone points made for Twitter)pic.twitter.com/MfomLSMdAt
