I suspect, as usual, the authoritarians on the right will object to the poppy burning and those on the left to the display of the golliwog and both will note the other's inconsistency but not their own. But Big Brother Watch notes them all & so should we all.https://twitter.com/KateTheSaboteur/status/993397885164285952 …

I'm not right or left. I'm just trying to debate the nuances of freedom of speech and how it is often thought, incorrectly, to be an absolute freedom. I think both the cases of these men and count dankula can clearly be shown to have caused offence.....

Yes, you are arguing freedom of speech should not include the right to offend and defenders of it are arguing it should. That's the big disagreement at the moment. Freedom to offend is what freedom of speech defends because no-one objects to speech which doesn't offend. Obviously

I am arguing the right to freedom of speech should not include the right to be offensive or incite hatred and violence. That is different to freedom of speech including the right to offend.

George Orwell is having apoplectic ghost spasms of exasperation at this point. You really should read 1984, it’ll set your thinking straight on this and is entertaining as well. ‘Kindly Inquisitors’ are in full tilt in the UK.... good night and good luck.
