I don't understand the mentality that can't simply disagree with someone: what good is served by making all disagreement personal?

TBF, most are saying that my behaviour is terrible and irresponsible and disgusting and gross rather than me personally.
-
Your behaviour? As in, expressing your opinion? Or some other behaviour?
-
Yes, my behaviour as in my opinion and expressing it in response to her opinion.
-
Well then it's not really your behaviour they don't like, it's your opinion. They don't react like that to people who express opinions they like. They are abusing you for your thoughts. I guess thinking is a kind of behaviour too, but are we really accountable for our thoughts?
-
It's expressing it, yes. And I am the bully setting my tweeps on them (I just checked. Still, none of my tweeps have tweeted them) and yet...pic.twitter.com/XnYSgci75q

I just don't get it. I don't understand the mentality at all. I mean, I can understand it in the abstract, I just can't relate at all.

Helen (truth-above-all) Pluckrose: I don't usually comment on or 'like' ur tweets - as a male I feel like it's not my place. Your tweets are a daily reminder to me that the struggle to remain truthful to one's self is a good thing.
-
:-o but thank you

I wonder why they think that. Could it be because you are spreading problematic ableism and fat shaming...
-
Good then. Keep on the good work.

I’m going to need some evidence that you are awful. I’m data driven and see no way of backing this up rigorously. You are just going to have to double your efforts...

Some absolutely not interested in nuance here. That tumblr post was extreme. No one anywhere can talk about their weight loss journey less they contribute to the deaths, albeit indirectly, to others? No.
-
Yeah, I remember when I was a far-lefty and weight loss talk was "problematic". As a thin person I didn't think it was my place to question it. But this exchange shows what that dogma does- silence people like Helen who can't talk about their own issues without being slammed.
-
Agree! Also most people with reasonable social skills & who aren’t nasty know the situations where it is & isn’t appropriate to discuss weight & weight loss. We don’t need some random dictating it’s a no go area for all of us no matter the circumstances!
