Well... I've just been having a search of 'incels' to get a sense of it. First thoughts, 1) men who identity as 'incels' are indeed largely entitled misogynists. 2) most men being called 'incels' do not identify with the term or the values ascribed to it. This will not end well.

The ones who (proudly?) self-label as incels seem to carry a kind of contorted MGTOW mindset. And yes, that’s disturbing.

One problem is a lack of clarity with the term. Men who simply, for whatever perceived lack or just poor luck, get less sex than they’d prefer, getting lumped in with this oddly militant twist on the MGTOW concept... this is a thing that will produce trouble.

I am very worried about it. Even on incel sites, there's huge variety. Some sick bastards talking about pushing pregnant women down the stairs, punching them or cutting them in half because they've had sex. Dozens more talking about suicide because they themselves haven't.

Are there many legitimate criticisms to levy against modern western feminism? Yes. Has there been a frivolous broadening of what/who classifies as misogynist, sexist, racist, etc. in modern western society? Indeed there has.

But we should make no mistake, genuine misogyny exists in the first world. And it should be identified, challenged and defeated. I'm not prepared to call out the entire organization/movement because I have little familiarity with it.

but I trust you, Helen. If your assessment is correct then they absolutely qualify as misogynist.

My threshhold for this is high. Many refer to women as 'femoids' to indicate that are not human beings and post fantasies of violence or rant about the nature of women being evil & worthless or say that women only exist to serve men. This is hatred of women. Others are suicidal.

I feel like a lot of the incel mindset can be boiled down to self-loathing plus spectrum disorders.

If it's a stick to beat bitter misogynists (who actively identify with the term) with then fair enough, but some people are going to throw the baby out with bathwater and use it as a term of abuse for socially awkward men.

Seems to me the "incels" are just the latest example of some disgruntled group trying to claim victimhood in order to acquire status within a culture that valorizes victimhood.

Perhaps not mutually exclusive? There is no doubt some people are truly victims (in whatever sense, not talking about incels here) but the cultural reaction to owning that status vs expecting you to suck it up will dictate how often & strongly it’s embraced.

Nobody's looking how these meek frustrated guys got radicalized. Even with Islamic terrorists or gangbangers or people try to make an effort to understand how & why they get crazy & violent. If these incels are dangerous, we need to consider what turned poodles into pitbulls.

Seems to me the root of the problem is that our victimhood culture encourages people to always blame their unhappiness or disaffection on some other group. Incel losers aren't happy with their lives, so they claim themselves to be victims of the women who sexually reject them.

Realistically, males are involuntarily celibate most of the day, most days. From an evolutionary perspective, males desire sex more often than they can get it. That's what drives the evolved traits where males protect and provide resources for females. 🦕
