This is a lesson I have learnt in spades since coming to know you (& also comedians Jonathan Pie & Andrew Doyle). They are constantly written off as right-wing comedians & they're absolutely not. They're economic/social left, not...that other very weird identitarian thing.

Politics is increasingly split 4 ways. There's the economic right and the indentitarian right as well. And ne'er do they mix (the identitarian right seem suspiciously left wing economically)

Most of the time I find ‘but the Nazis were socialists!’ arguments insufferable, but there is some truth in the claim. Nazism (and its parent genus, fascism) did have protectionist, pump-priming, mercantilist economic policies.

The same goes for politician like Wilders and Le Pen.

Very true, Just shows that while the whoever the out group is can be very different the instincts behind these identitarian movements often come from the same place.

You're right about the split, but it's weird to me to think of the identity-politics obsessed bullies as "left" at all, given how reactionary and regressive all their ideas are. Brendan O'Neill rips into this type of activist, here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GAijQjmzDA …

And that identitarian left is staining the rest of the left with their craziness which leads centrists to end up going center right because that feels safer. At least they know the crazy of conservatives.
