I tend to use first names with my lecturers and tutors, although that's probably because I'm the same age as most of them. The ones straight out of school don't have the confidence, generally.

I’m currently an older student and noting this lately. I always start with Dr. or Professor _______, but some of them purposely switch to first names, even with the younger students. This is personal preference and should be ok.

I know that Danes are less formal. Back in the early 90's when I studied at the Technical University, we never called a lecturer by anything other than their first name. Same rule now when I am taking classes in History for fun. We still respect their knowledge.
