It's claims 2 & 3 that worry me the most. All violations (big & small) are part of the same unjust system? The example here is that a man who feels hurt by rejection is experiencing the same sense of entitlement as a man who commits sexual violence. This is incredibly dangerous.

The slippery slope goes: Feeling hurt by rejection & going away Feeling hurt by rejection & being abusive in response Refusing to accept rejection & forcing sexual advances on women - sexual assault. The difference between feelings, words & actions is lost. This must not happen.

"The impact of your actions is more significant than the intent" - This is obviously directly contradictory to the one above in which the impact of the rejection on the man was to make him feel hurt but that emotional reaction shows he's part of the problem.

He's not allowed to have feelings of hurt because he's a man. Meanwhile, any feelings a woman or racial or sexual minority has in response to any action of a person perceived as privileged are immediately legitimate & the privileged person must take responsibility for them.

The idea that whether or not we need to take responsibility for what we do and what we feel depends on whether we are considered to be privileged or marginalised rather than whether it is ethical/reasonable to do is an appalling one.

This is why I am beginning to think we need to stop saying 'postmodernism' which is too broad & easily confused and find a term just for this epistemology which works on a perception of society dominated by discourses of power in which knowledge & ethics are positional & relative

I love
@thesadredearth's suggestion of 'New Logocentrism' which goes right to the root of the epistemological problem - social constructivism rooted in language - but I'm also wary of neologisms that are not immediately comprehensible to all & will put people off.2 replies 3 retweets 14 likesShow this thread -
Postmodernism is notoriously difficult to understand and this leads people to give up or latch on to largely erroneous but graspable explanations like 'cultural Marxism' which misses the epistemological framework which is essential to understand.

And that framework isn't nearly as complicated as postmodernists make it out to be. The few core ideas causing us so many problems are actually quite simple to break down and explain although they are counterintuitive to both liberal & conservative conceptions of fairness.

My two pieces on PoMo do this but they tie it into a lot more and give theoretical detail. I think I need to draw up a graph of some kind. Possibly a cartoon so I can give a visual of how positionality works.

Replying to @HPluckrose
I’d love this, because if we need phd’s to get the point across, it won’t happen i’m afraid.
