Exactly. Why do you think they misuse the term? I can only imagine they do so because it attempts to maintain a degree of power, by way of presenting the female gender as oppressed and therefore in need of protecting, over and above men.

What I’ve seen, the trendy terms (toxic, patriarchy, misogyny, etc) are thrown around and people don’t even know what they actually mean. They’re just words one should use to look like in the know and get brownie points. I ask people to explain using other words, no answer.

I don’t know why people can’t just reply with “gender stereotypes aren’t very freeing or helpful to *either* sex”. It’s not necessarily patriarchy - just putting people in boxes.
