But people who say they are atheists are not wrong to say so unless they're using the term to deny what Peterson said - that we are animals whose minds have been shaped in ways that include a tendency to believe in gods. I've never known anyone to use 'atheist' to mean this.https://twitter.com/New_Stripe/status/990268027022336001 …

There's a difference between defining things and determining what they really are, though. We're in a time when we're beginning to understand lots of ideological definitions are mere dressing for deeper psychological processes. https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/990233651123286016 …

People who say they are atheists are as wrong as people who say they are theists. It is a flaw in their ability sufficiently to deconstruct the nature of knowing. It is a paradox most humans can not comprehend. So they make the same logical error. Claiming to know the unknowable.

No, atheism is a disbelief and theism is a belief. Neither require claiming to know anything.

One is a belief that something does exist and another is a belief that something doesn’t exist. Both require the (false) belief that it is possible “know” if that thing exists.

What is a disbelief, then? And no, why do you need to think it is possible to know if a thing exists to believe or disbelieve in it?

2/ When it comes to the belief in the existence of some thing, you should have knowledge of it, but as we know that isn’t always the case.

Belief and knowledge often don't go well together. If I know something, I don't need belief.

Yes, but that isn’t what I am saying. I am saying that your beliefs (if you want to be reasonable and logical) should be rooted in some sort of knowledge. Most atheist root their belief (the belief that God doesn’t exist), in knowledge that is unattainable. Same flaw as theists.

JP doesn't use these words in the conventional sense and therefore creates confusion. He is using wrong words to express ideas. This doesn't mean we can't try to understand what he's actually saying (or trying to) and then agree/disagree instead of focusing on misuse of words.

No, our brains have evolved to be capable of a higher consciousness, making it inevitable that we would contemplate our own existence In a way that other animals aren’t capable of. That contemplation take some to the conclusion of God.

Did Peterson actually say that? Just that? I know he has some weird ideas when it comes to religion and symbolism sometimes but I find such a simple statement hard to fit into his usual discourse.
