Also very weird to imply it’s somehow a crusade being led by brutish misogynistic men to call women ovary-havers. Like it’s MRAs pushing trans-rights political correctness

@HPluckrose Wait a minute there: what about the trans activists who actually do abuse women for having ovaries & vaginas? Straight-up science denial seems to be at the core of much trans activism.https://terfisaslur.com/erasing-female-biology/ …

They exist and are nuts. This doesn't make them MRAs.

They exist and appear to be pretty mainstream in trans activist chat... I wouldn't group them with MRAs - but it's a fair point to say forcing "self ID" as legally enforceable "womanhood" is a real threat to womens rights & womens spaces.

Some trans people very much disagree with this.

I'm sure they do but this says nothing about the validity of the argument.

The argument is invalid because "trans women are women and there is no debate" is nonsensical. It leads to lesbians being called transphobes for their sexual preferences, and women's spaces having no discretion but to let trans women into their spaces.

I have said many times that I don't want to keep having this tedious conversation and it becomes even more meaningless when you insist every argument is really 'trans women are women & there's no debate & you're a transphobe if you disagree' no matter what it actually is.

That is the core argument - that is what is being taught in schools in the UK - that belief is the only basis of gender and if you disagree you are transphobe. Sorry you find it tedious - it's much easier to stick to arguments you like, i realise. <3 to you as always Helen.

It. is. not. the. core. argument. of. my. piece. or. this. one. If you only want to repeat that people are saying that & it's bad and not engage with any other points at all even tho I have agreed that people are saying that and its bad, please don't do it to me. I ALREADY AGREED

You can't just counter every nuanced argument around the subject with 'But the core point is that people say this bad thing and its bad' even after people have agreed that its bad. Of course, it gets tedious. We want to have a conversation not repeatedly agree with you on 1 thing

Right: so the conversation we should be having (which I am trying to have) is how we actually move the debate on to the very reasonable issues you discuss, and away from the actual arguments pushed by trans activists, by GLAAD, etc, which is that any dissent is transphobia.

We're getting to the crux of this. It's what I've decided to call the "ideological fallacy", which is the argument that if only everyone has their ideology sorted out (i.e. they agree with me...), there won't be problems. I think your article laying out your position... (1/2)

Let me guess? Is that some trans activists are authoritarian loons and that's bad? I bet that's the crux of it.

"Is that some trans activists are authoritarian loons and that's bad? I bet that's the crux of it." It goes well beyond that: the "loons" (or their enablers) are actually in charge of what's being taught in schools & pushed by politicians.

...is a really good discussion... but I don't think it addresses the debate that is actually happening: right now the UK labour party is facing a mess resignation, and schools are pushing IMHO absurd advice, all pushed by trans activism that goes beyond your position. (2/2)
