At least this is honest about sexist motivations and accepts that men can also say they like to support male doctors and find them to be better. I'd disagree with both because as someone who's had to see a lot of doctors, good and bad, I haven't found sex a determining factor.https://twitter.com/SarahThyre/status/986022964238798848 …

I like to support women doctors. And generally, I've found them to be better listeners and communicators than male doctors. You do you.

I think people should seek healthcare professionals they’re most comfortable with even if it’s unreasonable. Distrust and discomfort will derail any doctor-patient relationship even if it’s over something superficial.

confusing competence with gender is just as vile as confusing it with race.

To give her the benefit of the doubt, she is talking about general ‘female’ traits rather than competence. That said, I like my male dentist precisely because he’s gentle and talks me through what he is doing.

I flat out refuse to see a male gynecologist. If I'm see someone about female shit, I want them to be female. I wouldn't see a midwife who hasn't had a baby either. My GP was male...but he was a very annoying person. My kid's dentist is male and he's great. Teeth are unisex. Lol

Not saying my GP would have been less annoying if female.....I think his problem was he was older and was kinda condescending in that way. Like a dad talking down to a kid.

Anecdotal: Back in HS Health class, most students bombed part of the test on labeling their own anatomy, but aced the anatomy of the opposite sex. Do people really change? ;) (#thatsajoke) Anecdotal: My experience is consistent with @SarahThyre -- obviously there are exceptions.

From reading a bunch of other responses on that thread, sounds like it's a real crap shoot between good doctors and horrible ones, possibly with mediocre ones in between. Perhaps that's the problem. Medicine is a profession where every person should be excellent at all times.

@SarahThyre @davidbates @AlissaNutting @theferocity I don't care if my doctor is a deaf-mute as long as they have great knowledge and diagnostic skills.
