The child and I have finished Buffy and Angel and are looking for a new series to watch together. Recommendations suitable for a 13 year old who doesn't like romantic stuff, is OK with a bit of gore, likes supernatural stuff & female characters? Is Black Mirror suitable?

The new Sleepy Hollow series might be up your alley. Is anime on the table?

If anime is on the table: Escaflowne and the Twelve Kingdoms are both excellent 'teenage girl trapped in fantasy world' stories. The latter especially is completely romance-free.

It certainly is for her but not for me! I'll recommend it to her tho.

        Seconded, but it's very dude-centric.

Ah! That was a suggestion and not a description of Black Mirror! Yes, we started that but she lost interest coz no female characters.

That's why I say Sleepy Hollow. Strong female lead and similar vibe, while still being age-appropriate.

Firefly - only one series, very well done - then take a look at the film ‘Serenity’ as a follow-up.

Immensely clever conceit; a shame it wasn't taken further but by the same token it may only have had enough in it for one more series.

Black Mirror, depends on the episode but even then it’s really bleak (amazing but bleak.) Sounds like she would love Stranger Things!

Haha I used the word “bleak” to describe it too. I also recommended avoiding the first episode.... imagine having to watch that with your parents. Eww.

I’m not sure who would make a good viewing companion to watch beastiality but certainly my parents and my kids would not be high on the list. Best to watch episode 1 alone in a dark room where you can just sit and feel shame
