All these connections happen in people's heads when you say one thing. I'm expect this pattern-making tendency has been useful in evolutionary terms but it really does get in the way of conversation.
Because people are looking for signals, not employing reason. The world has become too complex for them and they're guessing. We need to start asking ourselves *why* all these "crazy" things keep happening.
This might encroach on the same tendency on the extreme left to lump anyone not extreme left as extreme right and unreasonable.
If they took the time to understand someones individual beliefs, they might have to grant that some of their positions are reasonable, and then they might have to consider that their position on the hot button topic could also be reasonable, casting doubt on their ideology.
That's what you get for making a perfectly reasonable assertion on the internet. I guess they showed you.
