We know feminist is not commonly understood as the aim for gender equality, @quellist1, because around 85% of Brits & Americans support gender equality but only 9% & 18% respectively support feminism.

I understand wishing 'feminism' were widely accepted as shorthand for the aim for gender equality but the reality is that it isn't and at some point, you just have to accept that a concept has shifted or a term has changed in cultural understanding and adjust accordingly.

I can see this happening, though. Someone asks if I'm an F. I say, "No, but I support gender equality." They respond w/ "THAT'S WHAT FEMINISM'S ALL ABOUT!" Then I have to explain why it's not and oh why did I come to this stupid party.
