I've woken up to find Twitter divided on whether to gloat over the allegations of sexual misconduct against David Silverman as evidence of the misogyny of atheist organisations or the self-serving sliminess of male SJW feminists. Stop it.

Identity is a way to engage in guilt by association tactics: "X did a bad thing. That's bad. But, *who* was X? Oh, X was a Z? Then, all Zs are bad." It's thinking & moral panic at it's most primitive, but worse in these instances, such tactics are used consciously & cynically.

But isn't there an underlying truth to this? You don't go around virtue signalling about the bleeding obvious unless you're extremely gullible and easily misled or you have a guilty conscience.
-
Being an atheist should, you would hope, rule out the former leaving us with the reason for his feminist activism.
-
Atheists can and do embrace irrational nonsense are much as anyone else. It’s just that their nonsense doesn’t involve Gods.
-
Not if you arrive at your atheism through reason, and are consistent.
-
True. Atheism is a consequence of having a rational mindset My point can also be the consequence of other mindsets.
-
Can't we just pick who the *real* atheists are?

Humm ... I don’t know Silverman but would be very surprised to learn that he never « searched for the tribe » of catholic priests behaving badly.
