I deleted quote tweets. Apparently, I am confused in my definition of the tribalism I criticise & am still tribal because I have views which don't change depending on who I'm talking to. Eg, I still disbelieve in God even when finding common ground with a believer elsewhere.

I doubt whether you're confused, and I certainly don't doubt that you know your mind and are consistent in expressing it. I do, however, doubt whether your current ratio of luminous to thermal energy emission is at as high a level as usual.

When some people identify AS their beliefs, they find that someone else's differing beliefs diminish their own self-worth. They are not arguing with you, but rather an avatar they've created which represents the hurt they feel. Good-faith is not possible.
