We are treated much better by our own culture. Cultures in which women have legal equality, freedom of belief and reproductive freedom are better for women than ones in which they don't. This should not be controversial.https://twitter.com/mrkringerz/status/985091616414228480 …

Said the Englishman touring about, passing his judgement on foreigners in between trips to the 1st class flight lounge. The double standard that gets me is that Westerners parade about pretending like women are treated much better by their own culture. Glass houses.

My concern is with people who pretend to be feminist (usually males) in order to bash Muslims. I think there is also a tendency to overlook the issues of inequality in our own backyards by pointing fingers at the “other” and saying how terrible they are.

My mentions full of islamophobic maniacs and predominantly white middle aged men raging about foreigners further cements my belief.

What about criticising them without Muslim feminists, liberals, LGBTs, reformists under the bus. Reluctance to address human rights abuses when committed by Muslims is how the petition to set out measures against honour violence only got 400 sigs & things like Rotherham happened

I find Richard Dawkins doddling around Doha on a layover making glib comments about another society to be gross and particularly English of him and it fans the flames of a prejudice against Muslims in the West that is already at a fever pitch.

What is the correct way to address gender specific modesty codes?

I dont know! I should think you have a far more educated opinion on that than I do, judging by your work.

ie: I havent the first clue how to address the oppression of women in Islam. But I know how to help my nieces believe in their own worth and to support my partner and my friends and colleagues. Going to another country and just slinging shit is unhelpful.
