Do you think so consistently or only when men call women that? If a woman says she finds a man intimidating, does it say more about her than about him?https://twitter.com/ReelTalker/status/984435461367222273 …

I brought this up because I've been called this numerous times, and I always think that calling someone "intimidating" says more about the person who's supposedly intimidated than anything else.

It seems odd that it would be a bad thing for a man to admit to finding a woman intimidating from a feminist perspective. It certainly doesn't fit with notions of toxic masculinity or the male oppressor/female oppressed narrative.

It certainly seems very difficult to get the balance right. If a man is assertive, he's being dominating, if he is nervous, this is also wrong. He's to speak to her on a level but not as he would speak to other men and also be careful never to explain anything?

I was told in high school by a girl she found me intimidating at first, but that was because I was in my rocker stage. Long hair, leather MC jacket, ripped jeans. She said after 5 minutes with me, she knew I was a teddy bear in a leather jacket.

I'm perplexed it's taken as a negative. I think people in general find strong/assertive/powerful ppl "intimidating". I have more than 1 role model that'd be quite nervous about approaching. What if I say something dumb, what will they think abt me. Do I have salad in my teeth.

It's human to want to impress those we look up to. + Assertiveness is attractive. The avg woman gets nervous around "strong" men too. It doesn't mean they would prefer a weak and docile man.

I'm confused so much is read into this kind of stuff, always the 1-sided perspective. I'm like wait, wat, so you blv it's NOT like this for men...? That there is no equivalent..?? I'm dumbfounded.. It's difficult to have a convo about this bc I literally dont know what to say...

As far as women are concerned, if a guy finds a woman intimidating because he can't control her, he's an ass. If it's because she's scary and intense, or just is easily intimidated, it's not.
