I am conflicted about a petition happening over here to keep abortion protesters at a distance from clinic doors. On the one hand, I support the right to protest & the free expression of views in public places. On the other, this gets close to forcing people to listen.

But how far
? Measured in distance, or visibility (i.e. round a corner)? Based on walking routes from nearby public transport to the clinic?
And how would this decision map to something like Facebook ads targeted at folk likely to be thinking about an abortion? #shadesofgray -
I don't know. I don't know how to come at this. That seems like a slippery slope argument. If we stop protesters shouting in people's faces, then we'll be banning Facebook ads.

Sorry, yeah, not clear how to respond because my comment isn't exactly agreeing or disagreeing with you. Just me thinking out loud. You're definitely right to say that in many ways online is easier.

Yr also talking about a subset of people who are (likely) emotionally fragile, so the reasoned debate aspect of free speech seems misguided in this case. The phrase "not the time or place" isn't "never".

Does this only apply to abortion clinics? Why should protest be allowed X feet from ANY group's doors? Why should protest be allowed At All? I don't want to hear it, I shouldn't be forced to when walking down the street, right?
