I strongly dislike the 'Respect women because they have relatives' bullshit. We're a sexually reproducing species which cares for its young and maintains family ties. Nearly everyone has relatives. They're also individuals and have genuinely respect-worthy qualities.

Some people think it's inconsistent that I am critical of feminism and of 'traditional gender roles' which make women purely wives and mothers and domestic workers but it isn't. If feminism was just that, I wouldn't be critical of it.

I think some people can be fulfilled by a life devoted to domestic & family stuff and devoid of work or intellectual pursuits just as some people can be fulfilled by a life devoted to work or intellectual pursuits & devoid of domestic & family stuff but I think most ppl need both

I am very very sceptical of traditional gender roles at the same time as recognising that gender differences exist and lead to different choices in life. This is because I know we are overlapping populations. Steven Pinker said it best:pic.twitter.com/JurdNpL7C6

. . . matter what her other roles are in society she cannot be anymore close or important to me. i'm not saying your point is a bad one, i'm just skeptical of the interpretation. like people getting upset over someone saying they are colourblind on race-they miss the point.

That's why I wrote the thing. However, yesterday I was responding to someone saying that women's roles are as family members.

It seems to be designed to appeal to empathy-challenged rabble who need it pointed out that strangers are also people, so whatever feelings of respect they have towards their own kin, extend it to strangers as well.
