I am kind of a tribalist because I trust my friends and am furious if they are defamed. But friendship is not the kind of tribalism I am worried about. It does not lead me to claim them to be right about things I think they are wrong about or to have common beliefs.

That's because a tribalism of friendship is built on shared experiences/beliefs/values/morals, all which contribute to a bond. It isn't built on a superficial grouping of identity, like race/gender/religion. In terms of tribalism, I would take the former over the latter any day.

In the past 2 days, I see important tweets. They are DEFINING terms that sorely need a definition.

For no special reason, lately I find people examining "argumentation." The issue of "tribalism," or the use of phrases, "playing devil's advocate" @IonaItalia . My pet peeve is people watching Jordan Peterson defeat /1https://twitter.com/diepthought/status/984101361448116225 …

You know those times an internet troll asks you a stupid, bad faith question and then you explain it to them and then they ask even more stupid questions? I just found out that theres a term for that. So don't be fooled pic.twitter.com/1sBZq20sgg

defeating Cathy Newman & blaming the phrase "So you're saying." But F Lee Bailey saved OJ with the phrase "Is that what you're telling us?" He defeated Mark Fuhrman w/ the same "phrase" with which Newman was defeated.

There's likely a distinction to be made between 'tribalism' and 'friendship' that negates what you take to be tribalistic in your approach.
