How could you take rape more seriously? There is already a special register, sentences similar to that for murder, an accusation can sink people utterly, in film it is always the sign of irredeemable evil whilst murder can be cool.

"an accusation can sink people utterly" - but reality shows it doesn't, like roman polanski, trump, roy moore, r. kelly. They do represent a large part of our society - roy moore was very close to winning, almost half of the people who voted for him thought the accusations were..

no big deal. How many accusations had trump had against him for sexual assault? He even bragged about it on tape. He still won. A lot of people voted for him - how is that not representative? R.Kelly had sex with 14 yrs old girl and people in the music industry still worked.....

with him (including Lady Gaga), this was before the whole sex cult thing came out. And Roman Polanski, he got an award and a standing ovation from a room. Those are very very representative. It seems like we only shun away rapists when it's convenient.

Right. Some people who have been accused of rape still manage to achieve popularity for other things. Is that the whole of the evidence that America is fine with rape?

It's evidence that for a very large portion of the population, rape is perfectly acceptable as long as it's done by the right person. I guess I can put Bill Clinton (although I don't call it rape) in here too.

No, I don't think it does mean that. I'd be surprised if very many people at all based their votes on support for Trump's pussy grabbing comments or Clinton's defence of her husband or alleged laughing about getting a child rapist off. They were thinking politically.

I don't think they based their vote on it either, bu what happens when you decide to ignore a serious crime like rape or sexual assault just because the attacker is someone charismatic, what kind of culture does that create?

Do you think that people voting despite both candidates having been accused of advocating or excusing sexual assault made the general population more tolerant of sexual assault?

You can say Hilary excused sexual assault, but that's different from committing sexual assault. And that's not the only example I brought, it's a recurring pattern. I could excuse Roy Moore to some degree because people cared about abortions more.

I don't say this. I don't know if it's true that she got a rapist off and laughed about the victim or not. I was told this by someone who assumed I was American because I was urging Americans to pick her over Trump. Apparently, I was pro rape culture.
