As I was obese (20 stone, now 14 stone) I feel like I can comment on this. Sofie Hagen is irresponsible. Being a guy and being fat does you no favors with women, health or anything (including mental health). To encourage people to be fat is a hate filled thing to do.

It's not hate-filled. But it is selfish, self-protective, tribal and bad advice.
-
Guess it depends on the persons motivation for encouraging others to be fat. If they are thin, healthy, competitive and are encouraging others to let go and make poor choices, could be seen as hate filled towards potential competition. But reasons for these stances vary I guess.
-
From observation: usually self-protective delusion and/or well intentioned white-knighting.

Lol at people who think fat people expecting to be treated like actual human beings is somehow "promoting obesity." How about you worry about your own body and understand that other people's bodies are not your business. Not sure why this is so difficult.
-
Not walking on eggshells around someone is treating them like a human being.

While the fat positivity movement is not without its problems, I think these kinds of response articles aren't doing much to further health initiatives. I think what we all need to be taking away is that we clearly need a change in approach.
-
Saying obesity is unhealthy over & over clearly hasn't gotten us anywhere. We need to shift the language focus back to behaviors, as that is the only thing people can control. Saying "avoid overeating" is MUCH different from saying "avoid being fat".
-
To address illnesses correlated w/ smoking, for example, we don't say "stop having the capacity to get lung cancer". We say stop smoking.

We've not been helped by over 50 years of inadequate nutritional science, with its simplistic nostrums about calorie/energy balance and dietary fat. Rather than recognise its failure, it off-loads responsibility on to the individual, resulting in guilt, fatalism and denial.

It is fine to be fat, but celebrating obesity is irresponsible.
