Yes, people will respond that 'toxic masculinity' only describes a certain type of masculinity & healthy masculinities exist but this is still a terrible way to look at it - making it part of the essence of men. 'The problem is with your masculinity.'https://twitter.com/christianjbdev/status/983657870427291649 …

More on "toxic masculinity". TM is a poison-metaphor used to describe half the population. That's...really not a good idea. The language of disgust/poison/toxicity is dehumanising and dangerous.

I hard a big ol' argument with my last GF on this exact topic - I wasn't really familiar with TM, she framed it as all men, and the least charitable description you can imagine. When I looked it up later I was stunned she'd not framed it in a way I wouldn't push back against

Was hard to work out if she was just trying to cause an argument, or genuinely saw it the way she put it to me. Neither was A Good Thing for a healthy relationship anyway

The term toxic masculinity actually has a bit of a history. They claim its been studied and comes from scientific discovery. Its actually an observation of a psych at a prison wondering why inmates didnt want to talk to him. Did a video on this.https://youtu.be/djbAtvLFiyg

“Toxic masculinity” “White fragility” “Mansplain” “Whitesplain” “Check your privilige” It’s all reductive, sometimes dehumanizing language. I’ve always said that main problem with New Left intersectional ideas is the marketing. Horrible way to convince anyone.

I'm comfortable with whatever rules, but all parties must abide by them. Bring up toxic masculinity, fine. I'll bring up toxic femininity. If you get angry, you've made a bad faith argument. I'll discuss any issue if it's a two way street.

"Toxic masculinity" is an oxymoron. A genuinely masculine man, like a genuinely feminine woman, is not toxic.

A simple test on this would be to ask is there such a thing as 'Toxic Feminity' that we should be worried about? Or does the shit of all women (and men who identify as such) just automatically smell of roses?
