However, this is not to say they don't then go home and opine politically and at length from behind their keyboard. I have a lot of tech nerds following me who are hardly reticent on the topic.

Colleagues all the time. Customers well, IMO in IT consulting. Long term engagements you will open up to political discussion. Not so short term\new clients
