Whether something has been normalised and whether there are institutional barriers to prevent it are very different. The latter is the vital thing to overcome & we have mostly achieved this. Social norms take longer and yes, are probably upheld by innate differences on average.https://twitter.com/unigolyn/status/981877554972897280 …

Isn't it already normalized? I don't see any institutional barriers to norm breaking in gender roles, but if there's an innate difference in preferences, then these norms will stay in place because it's what most will choose. And that will unavoidably feel like pressure to some.

"Norms" are what I usually identify as human nature. It's a predisposition that no one can wholly change. Hence why I'm a tomboy and not a demigirl genderqueer angsty teen, lol.

"Takes longer" implies it's the end goal. If we're talking boomers with archaic attitudes dying off, that's one thing, but I don't understand why it's necessary to get to 50/50 parity in lifetime earnings, time spent with children, or any other metric.

It seems like we're taking male priorities (money/career) and saying these are the most worthwhile priorities, and therefore it's inherently unjust that equal numbers of women don't share them.

there are many feminists who do push for men to be more active in home life to reach a middle ground.

Yeah, but that still implies home life is a chore that must be shared, not something people could legitimately find more desirable.
