On the plane, on my way back from my first trip to the US recently, I thought I could tell who was American and who was British by their facial expressions. I thought I was imagining this but when I told my Gauri who has lived in both, she did 'Britface' & 'Americanface' for me.

British faces are just held more tightly, especially mouths. Eyes are more guarded & they tend not to roam around looking at people. American faces are more open and relaxed & expressive of feeling & eyes look directly at you without embarrassment. Stereotypes? Yes. But, you know

I think it's us who are the weirdos. When I was studying nursing, we read a study which showed how much more likely Irish people & west Indians were to be diagnosed with mental illness due to expressing emotion in words and on faces.
