I do find Enid Blyton's xenophobia fascinating. It was so entrenched. In her books, Parrots in England mimic English accurately but just babble in mimicry of other European languages because those are real languages.

Any idea when they were sanitised?

I had a discussion with someone about a potential remake of "The Damn Busters". He was all fired up that they should keep Gibson's dog and it should be called "ni**er". I said I thought that was silly as it would just upset people and really wasn't an important part of the story
-
If it was a Guy Gibson biography it would be different and we would discuss his broken marriage and love-affair with an RAF nurse but those details are not important to the story of the Dam Busters raid itself. I guess I'm pretty sanguine with sanitising Enid Blyton too
-
Though I have to say I would not be OK with the idea of sanitising the "N" word from Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn. Where I think the language is important to the story

Jail someone for owning a golliwog and Britain will grumble and mutter how ridiculous the country has become, but take away our right to be xenophobic to the French and this country will BURN!
