I'm doing a podcast episode on one of my favourite topics: Tea! So, tell me: what is your favourite thing about tea? Your favourite tea? A strong memory about tea?

Amen! Milk first is an abomination. And one might note another necessity: the cup ought to be warmed with boiling water. I may dispute the six minute steep, though... I do my best to evangelise when I'm back in the U.S. on academic breaks.
-
Wait, what's up with milk first? It's unnecessary nowadays but does it really make a difference (other than being able to see how much is enough)?
-
Theoretical particle physicists these days... Tut.
-
I mostly drink coffee to avoid such controversial issues. But really... is there a real reason for milk after (if milk is taken)?
-
Yes, because the leaves only brew properly if in boiling water. The milk cools down the process, so you don't get quite as strong of a brew.
-
You don't mix the tea with the milk before the tea is brewed. The milk historically went in the cup first before the tea because china could crack. Chucking leaves in milk is obviously completely nuts. In THAT case I agree.
-
Then it doesn't matter when you add the milk. If already brewed. Milk first or last is a debate for making it in a mug.
-
What?! Isn't this just a big misunderstanding of the origins of milk first? It can only ever be applied to separately brewed tea. This is definitely a hill I am willing to die on.

There just might be several million people in the world that may disagree with this definition of tea. What’s that place called? China? I think they have tea.
-
And they are wrong.
-
Occidental much?

"It must be made with boiling water", preferably in a microwave oven. "Biscuits may be dunked in it" because anything you put in tea can only make it better... crumbs, sugar, milk, rubber bands, hair, herring, etc...
-
You are precisely why we need tea missionaries

-
"tea missionaries" Militant teahadis
-
This is what happens when you let the colonies get rowdy. They get silly ideas about "tea being bad" and "freedom". The leaves speak for themselves and their quality. The only people who make it violent are the mud slurpers of the world who defy the natural order.

-
The natural order is chaos and death. We are trying to save you. Don't be a kaffir... be a coffeer.

Whatever one thinks of the late Christopher Hitchens, it is clear he was doing God's work here:http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/fighting_words/2011/01/how_to_make_a_decent_cup_of_tea.html …

As a Southern American, I must say I disagree.
Tea is brewed, 3-5 bags at a time depending on personal preference, in water brought up to a boil for 15 minutes, mixed with a cup of sugar and a gallon of ice/water in a pitcher.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
