Brit tweeps: Petition: Create a Freedom of Speech Act and Bring an End to "Hate Speech" lawshttps://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/203615 …
The right to freedom of speech should be called the right to freedom of expression because that would be clearer about what it covers. It doesn't cover causing a stampede, breaking confidentiality laws, committing espionage, commissioning a crime etc.

Exactly, so this petition is wrong and should be amended. What it should say is “We petition the government to introduce legislation protecting Freedom of Expr... oh wait, Article 10 ECHR, that”.
-
I also agree that freedom of speech would be better called freedom of expression to avoid people saying 'But you can't shout fire in a theatre' and completely missing the point but it isn't called that so we have to keep explaining that is what it means.
-
We already have it. Article 10. This is a stunt.
-
So, we've had no arrests for burning poppies, saying British soldiers should die and go to hell, saying transitioning children is wrong and teaching a dog a Nazi salute? The police are not explicitly saying they will arrest people for tweets? This is what we are countering.
-
How would you phrase bringing in a new act which allows people to express these ideas?
-
So you want people to be able to say whatever they like in whatever way they like and to whomever they like? Irrespective of the damage it may cause to people or a person?
-
No, not to whomever they like. There is no right to harass people or make them listen to you. People have been arrested for general tweets, facebook posts and youtube videos.
-
This petition is not asking for a law to allow general tweets etc. It is asking for people to be able to express their views with NO restrictions. NO government intervention. You really want that?
