I thought you were against ‘Free Speech’ in favour of ‘Freedom of Expression’?

I didn't make it.
-
Yes I know. You’re promoting it though. This goes totally against your position in our previous conversation on this issue.
-
No, it doesn't!
-
I consistently argue for the free expression of ideas. This is petition for the free expression of ideas. Look at what it's asking for.

Remember we discussed shouting “Fire” in a cinema and you said that was Free Speech and what you wanted was not that, it was Freedom to Express opinions...pic.twitter.com/7GB3A398ef

That's right, yes. That is what by freedom of speech and it is what it asked for here. This is not asking for the right to cause a stampede, is it?
-
The right to freedom of speech should be called the right to freedom of expression because that would be clearer about what it covers. It doesn't cover causing a stampede, breaking confidentiality laws, committing espionage, commissioning a crime etc.

Canada does, theoretically, have free speech protections in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but unfortunately also hate speech laws.

Government has already responded to this one with the usual pile of authoritarian nothing-whisperings. The 'perceived' line is from our actual law. If it reaches 100k they -may or may not- debate it in parliament. I would expect the same heap of shite once again, if they even dopic.twitter.com/nrrVVTt8JV

I tend to agree but proposal needs to be more specific, not that these petitions go particularly in depth
