I’m explaining why, if the purpose of marriage is to create a stable platform for children, why someone might be less-than-enthusiastic about same-sex marriage. I’m also offering an alternative that I think justifies it. At least it does for me.

OK, but I don't think it is. There is no reason to think same-sex couples are less stable than opposite-sex ones, either. They never have kids by mistake before they are ready to be parents.
