I agree (and am not quote tweeting Yan in opposition) Looking after kids is easier the more adults there are in a home. It used to be essential when couples existed by subsistence farming. https://twitter.com/KvalHdura/status/980928467339481089 …
It's not essential in the same way. Kids might be better off with two parents on average tho so much more depends on the parents but it was really impossible for subsistence farmers to be single with young kids.

Yes, I see the differentiation. I can't refer back to the tweet, but I was thinking about socio-emotional outcomes than actual survival of child. More adults (one, two or more) has an impact there. isolation of families into smaller groups could be the core of a lot of problems

Everyone talks about the break down of the marriage being an issue - statistically, less optimal - I think we should look at the breakdown of the extended family more.

Can't like this enough!!

I mean, marriage has sucked since it was invented - some days, for everyone, right? It works for everyone that way. Sometimes you are going to want to wring a neck. (Hi, honey - love you.) But, it's ALWAYS been that way! Bigger families is what we've lost.

That's what I am agreeing with. The extended family is really getting dinged as of late.
