I strongly dislike people saying 'um' in tweets. I know its a quick way to show bewilderment but it seems impolite. You can't address it. I'd much prefer 'I am bewildered by this.'

Don't mistake this for tone policing. I will nearly always ignore both of these and assume good intentions. But I find tone and expression interesting. I think it makes so much difference.

Not as infuriating as "just a thought" to give gravitas to what is usually a bone-headed, unoriginal statement.
