I strongly dislike people saying 'um' in tweets. I know its a quick way to show bewilderment but it seems impolite. You can't address it. I'd much prefer 'I am bewildered by this.'

I also dislike 'Think about it' said casually. Both of them seem to assume own rightness which annoys me. The strongest I'd go to is 'I'm not sure you've thought this through.'

Don't mistake this for tone policing. I will nearly always ignore both of these and assume good intentions. But I find tone and expression interesting. I think it makes so much difference.

I automatically assume that the person doing it is just looking to pick a fight and it’s only a matter of time before they start lying. I’ve yet to be wrong about either assumption.

For what it's worth, I consider "I see" or "ic" or "oic" to be similarly deplorable euphemisms... usually means either "I don't see" or "I disagree and you're an idiot."

Wait, isn't "I see." the same as "I understand."? Unless it's directly related to something someone is showing you visually (although then you usually go "I see it/them/him/her."). I can accept 'ic' or 'oic' when texting on the phone, but it annoys me in a proper text. :)

Usually I've seen it used as quite the opposite. Not euphemism per se, but there have been numerous times when I've been told "I see" and I know it means the opposite.

It's like being told by your SO "no, nothing's wrong" ... most of the time you know in context it's just the opposite. So I avoid using that phrase.
