I've been approached to write a book, btw, tweeps. Accessible explanation of dominant forms of critical theory, where they came from, how they manifest in the world now. The good, the bad & the crazy bits of all of them.

What I want to produce is a resource that people can dip into if they want to know, eg 'What is critical whiteness theory?' and find an overview of history, references to key texts & an analysis of the good bits, mad bits & ethically troubling bits.

But I'd also like it to be something which, if read straight through, would give a laymen a thorough grounding in key ideas of postmodernism, how they evolved through various forms of critical theory & manifested in political culture as well as my argument about how to address it

It will be a expansion of my essay 'No, Postmodernism is not Dead' allowing me to develop & demonstrate my argument in much more detail. It will still be an overview but I hope to avoid reductionism by acknowledging this & giving many sources for ppl wanting to take it further.

It will allow me to be less polemical but still get my point across. I intend to steelman the premises of various forms of critical theory & also show where they have been useful before showing where they have not, why they have not & why this matters.

Tbh I had the same idea (not for me to write it, for you to!!) lol... Didn't seem proper tho to ask someone to write a book... but it is something I am looking for coz I don't have the patience to read PoMo to develop a proper critique.

I think there definitely is a significant market for it from what I have seen. I'd also like students to find it useful. There is little that is accessible to them either when they are expected to take it seriously. Takes a long time to cut through the bullshit & see how it works

The JBP crowd would probably eat it up, and it would sway them in a good direction (at least I hope so) . Here is how not to do it, I found this to be very biased, btw this is where JBP gets his ideas on it from, I'm pretty sure.https://www.amazon.com/Explaining-Postmodernism-Skepticism-Socialism-Rousseau/dp/0983258406 …

I did like the section on the epistemological continuity with counterenlightenment thinkers although this is really more of academic interest than useful in understanding the mentality.

Yes current theories esp intersectionality are important and the history isn't relevant to that. This may go outside your purview, but tracing the thread from theorist to angry protestor/ twitter mob (especially for those who haven't been to college) would be interesting.
