What I want to produce is a resource that people can dip into if they want to know, eg 'What is critical whiteness theory?' and find an overview of history, references to key texts & an analysis of the good bits, mad bits & ethically troubling bits.

But I'd also like it to be something which, if read straight through, would give a laymen a thorough grounding in key ideas of postmodernism, how they evolved through various forms of critical theory & manifested in political culture as well as my argument about how to address it

It will be a expansion of my essay 'No, Postmodernism is not Dead' allowing me to develop & demonstrate my argument in much more detail. It will still be an overview but I hope to avoid reductionism by acknowledging this & giving many sources for ppl wanting to take it further.

It will allow me to be less polemical but still get my point across. I intend to steelman the premises of various forms of critical theory & also show where they have been useful before showing where they have not, why they have not & why this matters.

Give it a go. It will be a good learning experience whatever happens. My book on postmodernism would be a lot shorter. One word in fact.

I am neck deep in the po-mo muck as a Canadian teacher. Any intellectual flotation device you produce will be greatly appreciated. Take my money and write your book! (Note: my Canadian $ will look much prettier than this US $, even if I need twice as much b/c of po-mo Trudeau!)pic.twitter.com/mNEj6ciRYV

The problem as it seems to me: The gap between academic ideas, and social manifestations, are vast. Most ardent Socialists have never read Marx. Most ardent Libertarians have never read von Hayek or Mises. Most Feminists have never read Judith Butler, etc....
-
basically - I think modern progressive-left's identity-politics and illiberalism has little to do with Adorno & Horkheimer and Foucault, etc. Charting it back to them probably gives people too much credit.
