My interests are too narrow. I focus entirely on specific ideologies & cultural manifestations of them. Fine to have specific interests but not to be completely ignorant of everything else. Each month, I will pick a subject I am ignorant of & read accessible texts 30 mins a day.

April will be about physics. Obviously, I will still know very little about physics at the end of a single month but I am actually very vague about what it even covers and I can read several books in this time. I might go for a Great Courses introduction & listen while dogwalking

People are always telling me I should learn about things I'm ignorant of but I don't always agree with them. If I am ignorant of something, this just means I need to not offer opinions about it. This is not why. I am just aware of my own very narrow focus & wish to remedy this.

People are interested in different things, and that’s okay. If you don’t like feeling stupid on a given topic, your plan is brill, but the division of labour - including intellectual labour - exists for a reason. World would be boring if we all went for the same stuff.

Yes. I will still spend the vast majority of my time thinking in my own area of interest but I would like to spend a little exploring other things too.

The "Very Short Introductions" series are good for this. https://global.oup.com/academic/content/series/v/very-short-introductions-vsi/?cc=gb&lang=en& … As are the "... For Dummies" books. Not a pisstake; I've read several and they're great for laying out the basics of a subject.
