Also, I think it's relevant that anything we learn about *anything* is is an instance of learning about the world and its history. There's no element of humans (or anything else in the world) that isn't part of the world.

So, trying to clarify, are you saying that people use religion to create a faith-based epistemological view of the world as is and how it came to be, as opposed to using a religion to figure out how to act in the world?
