Religions & faith can do the same. Happens all the time, why there are so many different types and so many different variations within those types. Tolerance & flexibility is important, it is a higher order moral(tie it all this back together) that has developed in humanity. ;-)

No, they can't. They can't say that the existence of God is a consensus based on evidence but that it's provisional & this might change. They claim revelation and faith as an epistemology for it and also God to be definitely real & unchanging. Please, I can't keep repeating this

Since when is science consensus based? Revelation is one of the bigger issues, but not all religions have a reliance on revelation. We are all talking in generalities and not specifics or so I thought. Faith is not much different than Cartesian concept of Cogito Ergo Sum.

"planet" is just a word we use to classify bodies in space. We didn't really discover something new when we decided that Pluto is no longer a planet, it's just a dessicion by a committee of astronomers. It's not about "what is true" but "what are we gonna call it"
