I've lost some people for not being a fan of religion or faith-based thinking generally. This happens. Thanks to all the religious people who stay with me despite disagreeing on this. You're the ones I want to keep.

I'm not respectful of religion, Gil, but I hope I am polite. I respect many religious people tho despite disagreement on this.

Well, for one thing IIRC you recently replied to a Tweet by asserting that religions were generally founded with good intentions.

Yes, I think that's true. And that most people are drawn to the good bits.

So you think religions have good bits. I acknowledge that religion sometimes brings out the worst in people. Do you acknowledge that it sometimes brings out the best? Do you think the Old Testament God is the most evil villain in fiction? More than the Vogons & Dahleks?

First time seeing you personally, but do you at least admit that most of your daily life is based on faith? Ie you trust your car not to blow up, you trust chairs not to fall apart....

No. I accept that cars blow up and chairs fall apart.

Well a rational person wouldn't go in a car, or sit in a chair. You have faith that yours are not the defective ones.

No, I just take the risk. This is not what is meant by 'faith-based thinking' and not at all what I am criticising. If 'have faith' can be swapped with 'have confidence for good reason'. I am not criticising it.

Lol, did you think all "faith based thinkers" do it without confidence or good reason? You really do not understand faith based thinking.

This is the definition of faith that I am talking about. I have already said this. I am not criticising having confidence in things for good reason.

So how do you think people come to have, and rely on "faith"? Like, if they don't have a good reason to believe something, do they actually even believe it? You aren't attacking faith, just stupidity. Use stupidity next time, not faith.

True that ^^ I know I can be a quite militant atheist & sometimes catch myself saying TRULY offensive things. I'm thankful for the religious folks in my life that practice what they preach and extend forgiveness my way, even when I might upset them.
