I have a new xy chromosomer in the house doing electrical work. He tells me he is very interested in the whole political/cultural situation going on right now so this could be interesting. I'm sure there are many things I can straighten him out on.

He has not yet told me where he is politically and I am trying to anticipate this from some general cues from his demographic and manner. I will probably be completely wrong about this.

He's in his thirties and black which statistically makes him more likely to be a labour voter. I detect no wokeness tho as he's already asked if my husband is in so there's someone who will know how the electrics work. He happens to be right but still...

Very interesting man. Very well informed but largely on things I am not. Economics and 20th century war history. Just did a degree in psychology & criminology with the open university. Interested in systems of power but mostly economic ones, not identity-based ones.

Of course, I got him onto gender issues. Definitely not woke. Socially conservative Christian but in full support of gender equality & gets homicidal when women are abused. Thinks feminism has overreached and the pendulum needs to stabilise.

No mention of race at all & much factual & psychological analysis of allied forces and commonwealth referred to as 'we' so wokeness there unlikely too. Similar eye-rolling at mention of postmodernism & right-wing populism. Still not sure where to place him but I generally approve

If I had to guess, I would go with economically centre-left, socially centre-right. I have no guilt about indulging my hobby of interrogating cab drivers & people who do work in my house on their politics as he tells me he does exactly the same with his customers if they let him

Sadly, no. One off job but if he follows through on his intention to find me online, we may connect again.
